Overview

The Product Engineer Intern supports engineering activities related to product design, configuration, and documentation for trailer and truck body systems. This role provides exposure to translating customer specifications into manufacturable designs, generating engineering drawings, and collaborating with manufacturing and operations teams. The intern will gain hands-on experience working within a commercial vehicle manufacturing environment while contributing to meaningful engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with translating customer or sales specifications into engineering drawings and configurations.
  • Support creation and modification of 3D models and production drawings.
  • Assist with bill of material (BOM) creation and updates in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Review drawings and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, purchasing, and operations teams as needed.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with engineering change documentation and product updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Anticipated Projects:

  • Assist in new product development projects.
  • Assist in analysis of current improvements and lessons learned.
  • Support processing current products into drawings and BOMs.
  • Assist in competitive analysis.

Qualifications

Education / Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Skills: CAD and technical drawing, engineering fundamentals, bill of materials skills, problem solving and analytical thinking.
  • Manufacturing awareness with welding, sheet metal, assembly processes, tolerances is valuable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and ability to work independently and with others.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Work environment: Spend 85% of time in office environment and 15% of time in manufacturing environment. May be exposed to possible shop hazards including high noise, heavy machinery and shop traffic. Frequent use of a computer
